Co-Founder & Clinical Director

"Symptoms are messengers. Real healing traces them back to their source — and heals from there."

Jason Koenigbaur is a Registered Psychotherapist and, with his wife Jodie, co-founder of Aurora Village Therapy & Wellness Centre. With more than twenty years of experience — and advanced training under leading international experts in trauma, neuroscience, EMDR, and body-centred healing — he brings unusual depth to the work of healing.

At Aurora Village, Jason works with clients virtually, offering online psychotherapy across Ontario, and he leads workshops in person at the Aurora centre. Whether online or in a group, his aim is the same: to help you reconnect with the whole, grounded self beneath the patterns that no longer serve you.

About Jason

A depth-oriented, whole-person approach

Jason's work is built on a conviction that lasting change requires going to the root rather than managing the surface. Most people arrive struggling with anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties — but these are rarely the root. Beneath them, more often than not, is a deeper disconnection: from parts of the self that have been hidden, defended against, or abandoned.

His primary guiding principle is drawn from Gestalt therapy — the Paradoxical Theory of Change:

The more fully a person accepts themselves, the more they are able to change and grow.

So his aim is never to force change, but to help you turn toward your own experience — including the emotions and parts of self that have been rejected or disowned. He pays close attention to the nervous system and the body, because the body holds what the mind tries to forget; through somatic work, EMDR, and neurofeedback, he helps clients access and settle what talk alone can't always reach.

The result is work that meets you as a whole person, not a problem to be solved. Jason also serves as a clinical supervisor for qualifying therapists, bringing that same depth of training and care to every session and every workshop he leads.

How Jason Works

Three beliefs at the heart of the work

01

Root-cause healing

Symptoms are messengers, pointing to unprocessed experience or protective patterns that no longer serve. Jason's work traces them back to their source and heals from there.

02

The mind–body connection

The nervous system holds what the mind tries to forget. Effective healing engages both — using somatic work, EMDR, and neurofeedback to reach the body directly.

03

Reconnection to true self

Beneath the defences and protective patterns is an authentic, whole, grounded self. Healing means clearing the way back to it.

Workshops & groups at Aurora Village

While Jason sees clients online, he also leads workshops and groups in person at our Aurora centre — spaces for deeper learning, nervous-system regulation, and reconnection, in the company of others.

These gatherings are a chance to experience the body-based, whole-person work Jason is known for, in a warm and supportive setting.
